A June Pilgrimage to Pitti Uomo: Style, Sun & Seersucker in Florence
Pitti Uomo, held twice a year in Florence, is many things: a trade show, a fashion carnival, a proving ground for trendsetters. But above all, it’s a ritual—one that anyone serious about menswear needs to witness firsthand. This past June, I made the pilgrimage myself, stepping into the heat of Tuscany and into the eye of the world’s most stylish storm. The spectacle didn’t disappoint. Men peacocked in linen and loafers, pastel suiting and Cuban collars, straw hats and attitude. But beyond the theatrics, Pitti remains a place where trends take root. It's not just for showing off—it's for seeing what’s next.
For inspiration, I walked the entire show. Every aisle, every installation. That’s where you find the subtle shifts—the tailoring tweaks, the fabric innovations, the color pairings that feel fresh but inevitable. Pitti is a place where details matter: the lapel roll, the cuff length, the surprise of a nylon trench among a sea of tropical wool. It's a show you don't just attend—you absorb.
Outside the fairgrounds, Florence puts on a show of its own. Walking through its sun-bleached streets, I passed the Duomo in awe—no matter how many times you see it, it hits differently. Between appointments and events, I wandered into a vintage shop off a narrow alley and left with the most unexpected find: a Stetson bucket hat. It fit perfectly. It was oddly elegant. And it kept the blazing sun off my face for the rest of the week. Sometimes style is about instinct, and that hat was a yes without hesitation.

That night, I attended the WM Brown magazine issue launch event. True to the brand’s ethos, everything was impeccably curated but completely unpretentious. They served their proprietary Negronis—bittersweet, just right—and offered their own WM Brown cigars on-site. I grabbed one for the night and pocketed another for the next day. Moments like these remind you that style isn’t just about what you wear—it’s about what you sip, what you savor, and the people you share it with.

The following evening brought the Todd Snyder x Il Bisonte riverside collab event, a picturesque Florentine dream. Pizza dough was tossed and fired on-site in a riverside brick oven. Then came the gelato—dense, rich, cold perfection. Easily the best I’ve ever had. The guest list was equally rich: fashion editors, influencers, photographers—all mingling in relaxed elegance under the setting sun. It was the kind of evening that made the chaos of the Pitti grounds feel distant, and the entire trip feel essential.

Of course, Pitti is also about showing up. I wore CMMP each day, not just to represent the brand, but to field-test the pieces. Day one: our nylon Citizen Coat—light, breathable, and surprisingly utilitarian even in 90+ degree heat. Day two: a cotton version of the Citizen remixed with art from Parsa Afsharjavan, equally sharp but softer in presence. And on day three, my favorite combo: a brown seersucker suit paired with a black seersucker shirt. It’s the most masculine color pairing I know—think Eames Lounge Chair: rich, textured, iconic.

Pitti Uomo isn’t just a fashion event—it’s a reminder of why style matters. It’s performance, yes, but also purpose. For Commonwealth Proper, it was a reaffirmation of our design philosophy: tailored, functional, and distinctly American with global relevance. Walking those cobblestones in custom fits, surrounded by fashion’s sharpest minds, I didn’t just feel part of the conversation—I felt like we were helping shape it. And that’s why we go.
